ADULT Wingspan 19 - 22mm. The combination of white spoyyed balck wings, the orange tufts of hair just behind either side of the head and its day flying habit make this an unmistakable pyralid.
CHRYSALIS An oval, yellowish cocoon.
LARVA Located within silky veil feeding on the leaves of Goldenrod and Dyers Greenweed.
BEHAVIOUR Dayflying species with a peculiar spinning style when in flight.
HABITAT Open woodland and nearby hedgerows. Prefers limestone areas.
FLIGHT PERIOD Single brooded.  May to July.
STATUS Resident.  Localised throughout.
