ADULT Wingspan - 45 - 55mm. A beautifully marked species with males usually darker and coming in shades of brown through to olive green whereas females are generally paler throughout. A robust looking species that cannot be mistaken for anything else.
CHRYSALIS Pupation is relatively short.
LARVA Feeds on primroses, nettles and docks.
BEHAVIOUR Attracted to light.
HABITAT A preference for wooded areas.
FLIGHT PERIOD Single brooded. July to September.
STATUS Common resident in throughout although scarcer in Scotland.
