ADULT Wingspan 18 -22mm.  The resting posture and colours of this moth convince the finder that a bird dropping is being viewed such is the remarkable mimicry.  The white forewings have beautful subtle markings with smudged blues most noticeable. 
CHRYSALIS N/A
LARVA Feeds on Hawthorn, Blackthorn and Bramble.
BEHAVIOUR Attracted to light.
HABITAT Hedgerows, gardens, parks and coastal.
FLIGHT PERIOD Resident.  2 generations - May to July and again in August.
STATUS Resident.  Common throughout but absent in north of Scotland.
