ADULT Wingspan 35-42mm.  The forewings of this species vary from grey to dark brown but careful scrutiny makes this an easy moth to identify. The pale stigmata that is outlined in black and the white hindwings should confirm ID. The forewing is fairly pointed with a straight leading edge.
CHRYSALIS Located underground.
LARVA Dark grey with pale dorsal band. Feeds on thrift, knotgrass, and plantains.
BEHAVIOUR Attracted to light and sugar.
HABITAT Coastal near dunes and cliffs.
FLIGHT PERIOD July - August.
STATUS More common towards the South and West coastlines.
