| ADULT | Wingspan - 35 - 50mm. A large moth with the main diagnostic feature being the black dart that extends from the kidney-mark. The colouring of this moth is variable with some specimens being very dark indeed. |

| LARVA | Greenish-grey with an indistinct dorsal lin Underparts pale grey. |
| BEHAVIOUR | Attracted to light. |
| HABITAT | Coastal areas but can be seen anywhere. |
| FLIGHT PERIOD | Seen anytime between March and October. |
| STATUS | Regular migrant and in some years appearing in mass numbers. |
