| ADULT | Wingspan - 35 - 45mm. The wavy black crosslines and the chalky white '80' marking on a brownish wing that sometimes has a violet tinge is quite distinctive. A cylindrical posture is held by the moth when at rest. Hindwings are grey. |

| LARVA | Grey and white in colour and feeds on Aspen. |
| BEHAVIOUR | Attracted to light and sugar. |
| HABITAT | Woods, parks and gardens. |
