DESCRIPTION Black with 2 raised orange spots on back.  White patches run along opposites sides and the whole caterpillar is covered with gingery brown irritant hairs.  When young found in communal silken nest.
FOODPLANT Hawthorn, blackthorn, dog-rose and sallow.
SEASON August to May.
