DESCRIPTION A quite distinct caterpillar with longitudinal lines of red, black and powdery blue with rows of yellowish hair tufts along the sides with longer blackish hairs along the back.  Lives in nests and only disperses after final instar.
FOODPLANT Various broadleaved trees and shrubs including hawthorn, blackthorn, oak and willow.
SEASON April to June.
