ADULT Wingspan - 35 - 43mm. An attractive moth when caught fresh with a luscious mix of chestnuts, greys and black. The kidney and orbicular marks are pale and stand out against the wide, brown crossband.
CHRYSALIS Overwinters as a pupa.
LARVA Feeds on Broom and Dyer's Greenweed.
BEHAVIOUR Attracted to light and sugar.
HABITAT Heathland.
FLIGHT PERIOD Single brooded. May to July.
STATUS Common resident in Southern Britain.
