| ADULT | Wingspan - 35 - 43mm. An attractive moth when caught fresh with a luscious mix of chestnuts, greys and black. The kidney and orbicular marks are pale and stand out against the wide, brown crossband. |
| CHRYSALIS | Overwinters as a pupa. |
| LARVA | Feeds on Broom and Dyer's Greenweed. |
| BEHAVIOUR | Attracted to light and sugar. |
| HABITAT | Heathland. |
| FLIGHT PERIOD | Single brooded. May to July. |
| STATUS | Common resident in Southern Britain. |
