Wingspan 34-42mm. Dark brown to greyish-black the forewings have a prominent black mark similar to the Hebrew letter nun, emphasised by the adjacent straw-coloured triangle. The hindwings are cream in color. |

Pupates in cocoon below ground. |

Light brown or green with black spots and a white line along each flank. Feeds on Buddleia, Ragwort and Nettle. |

Attracted to light, sugar and comes to flowers. |

Hedgerows, gardens, woodlands, marshes, parks and coastal. |

Resident. Double brooded - May to June and again in August and September. |
