Wingspan - 77 - 33 mm. Always a nice catch with broad forewings that are distinctly marked. The kidney spot is golden yellow, above the dark central cross-band is a pinkish line and the oval area is somewhat bluish in appearance. |

Pupates underground. Overwinters in this stage. |

Feeds on a variety of ferns (mainly Bracken) and other plants such as willowherb, sallows and nettles. |

Attracted to light and sugar. |
