ADULT Wingspan - 35 - 45mm. An all white moth with distinctive furry legs and thorax. and odd blackish brown marks on the trailing corner of the males forewing. The abdomen has a yellow tip. Female is larger.
CHRYSALIS  
LARVA Black and red with white and yellow stripes and an abundance of hairs that are an irritant to people. Overwinters in this stage inside a coccoon behind loose bark or within dead leaves.
BEHAVIOUR Attracted to light especially the males.
HABITAT Coastal areas, parks, gardens, suburban and urban areas.
FLIGHT PERIOD Single brooded. July to August.
STATUS Resident and common but mainly southern.
