Wingspan - 22 - 28mm. The central crossband with its distinctive reddish colour and black cross-lines is highly recognisable depsite being prone to variability. The moth has a grey ground colour and a smaller reddish area at the base of the wing. |

Hibernates as pupa in a cocoon among plant debris. |

Feeds on a variety of crucifers. Two-tone in colour primaily dark with two paler bands along each flank. Slightly hairy. |
