THE LIFE CYCLE OF LEPIDOPTERA

EXAMPLE OF LARVAL GROWTH TO ADULT (SPURGE HAWKMOTH)

Bright green eggs laid in abundance gave promise of great things to come

The initial larval stage was quite impressive despite the small size

A bit more elongated and looking like a totally different creature

A bit further along and although a bit bigger not much change

Quite a beastie now this snap was taken days before pupation

Within a hour of pupation this light tender pupa was a delight to behold

Hours later and the pupa gradually darkened and became firmer

And a few weeks later this little chap popped out - what a beauty

And equally impressive from the underside too - peek-a-boo
