| FRUIT BODY | 10 - 30cm in diameter. Thick fan-shaped bracket with a hard reddish-brown upper surface that is zoned and knobbled and with a smooth white pore bearing under surface that discolours when handled. |
| GILLS/PORES | The pores are small and white and discolour reddish-brown when handled. |
| FLESH | Dark brown, thick and tough. |
| SPORES | Brown, ovate. |
| HABITAT | In tiers or singularly on the lower part of deciduous trunks. Parasitic. |
