FRUIT BODY 10 - 30cm in diameter. Thick fan-shaped bracket with a hard reddish-brown upper surface that is zoned and knobbled and with a smooth white pore bearing under surface that discolours when handled.
GILLS/PORES The pores are small and white and discolour reddish-brown when handled.
FLESH Dark brown, thick and tough.
SPORES Brown, ovate.
HABITAT In tiers or singularly on the lower part of deciduous trunks. Parasitic.
SEASON Common.  Throughout the year.
EDIBILITY Inedible. r
