FRUIT BODY 5-15cm in diameter. Kidney or fan-shaped with an irregular edge and a slightly zonal upper surface that is felted to the touch at first and gradually becomes more smooth. The cinnamon colour of the upper surface is made up of usually 3 or 4 lighter/darker bands.
GILLS/PORES Pores cinnamon-orange.  Angular.
FLESH White and slightly spongy becoming tougher with age. All parts turn purple with KOH. Has a sweetish smell.
SPORES White, elliptical.
HABITAT On dead deciduous wood.
SEASON Uncommon.  All year round.
EDIBILITY Inedible. r
