HELVELLA CRISPA

FRUIT BODY: Up to 4cm tall. A creamy-white saddle-shaped cap that is variably contorted with many undulations. The undersurface of the cap is ochre and slightly downy. The stem is white and deeply furrowed and tapers towards the apex. GILLS/PORES: N/A. FLESH: Thin, white and rubbery. No taste or odour. SPORES: Cream and elliptical. HABITAT: Under beech or oak. SEASON: Frequent.  Summer to late autumn. EDIBILITY: Edible but poor.
