CAP 7-20cm in diameter.  Broad, convex with inturned margin. Dry golden yellow to orange with fine brown scales, rusty towards the centre.  Smooth and fibrous.  Slightly sticky when young.  
STIPE 1 to 2cm thick, swollen.
GILLS/PORES Gills are adnate, notched and slightly decurrent. Yellow turning orange.
FLESH Yellow and thick with a mild odour and pungent bitter taste.
SPORES Rusty orange. Rough, elliptical.
HABITAT In dense clusters on deciduous and coniferous trees.
SEASON Frequent.  Late summer - autumn.
EDIBILITY Inedible. a
