CAP: 2-6 cm in diameter.  A gorgeous violet mushroom that seems luminescent with a dry, scurfy feel.  When dry it becomes pallid lilac.  Starting convex, becoming flattened then very depressed in the centre. STIPE: Narrowly cylindrical and concolorous with cap. GILLS/PORES: Gill are thick and have a distinct wide spacing that is instantly recognisable to the experienced eye.  Shortly decurrent.  Concolorous with cap. FLESH: Pinkish, watery with no distinct smell or taste. SPORES: White, globular with short spikes. HABITAT: Trooping in damp broadleaf and coniferous woodland. SEASON: Common.  Summer to late autumn. EDIBILITY: Edible.
