CAP 2-6 cm in diameter.  A gorgeous violet that seems luminescent with a dry, scurfy feel.  When dry it becomes pallid lilac.  Starting convex, becoming flattened then very depressed in the centre. 
STIPE Narrowly cylindrical and concolorous with cap.
GILLS/PORES Gill are thick and have a distinct wide spacing that is instantly recognisable to the experienced eye.  Shortly decurrent.  Concolorous with cap.
FLESH Pinkish, watery with no distinct smell or taste.
SPORES White, globular with short spikes.
HABITAT Trooping in damp broadleaf and coniferous woodland.
SEASON Common.  Summer to late autumn.
