CAP 4-12cm wide.  Marbled grey to dark brown.  Starting broadly convex becoming flattened bun shaped. Dry and felty becoming smooth and slightly sticky. 
STIPE White with mouse grey scales.  Bruises greeny yellow on handling.
GILLS/PORES Pores start white then become buff to chocolate brown.
FLESH White turning blue-green below and light pink elsewhere.  Taste and smell pleasant.
SPORES Snuff brown, subfusiform.
HABITAT Mixed damp woodland, often with birch.
SEASON Frequent.  Late summer to autumn.
