CAP 5-12cm in diameter.  Funnel shaped with wavy, inrolled margin.  Tawny brown, darker towards the centre.  
STIPE Whitish buff, woolly at the base.  Becoming hollow.
GILLS/PORES Gills are strongly decurrent, starting white becoming yellow-orange then tawny.  Narrow and crowded.
FLESH Pale cream to tan, thin.
SPORES Cream, subglobose, slightly roughened.
HABITAT In groups in coniferous and broadleaved woodland.
SEASON Common.  Summer to early winter.
EDIBILITY Edible but poor. r
