CAP 10-25cm in diameter. Dull greyish brown.  Ovoid to globular at first eventually becoming bell shaped.  Covered in darker brown shaggy scales.
STIPE Tall, club-shaped.  Entirely brown when young becoming pale buff covered with dark brown scales giving a snake skin appearance.  Thick, large double ring which is brown below and loose on the stem.
GILLS/PORES Free of the stem, white, crowded and broad.  Brittle.
FLESH Whitish, thin and soft, bruising dull red.  Woolly in the cap.
SPORES White, long, ellipsoid.
HABITAT Outskirts of woodland, woodland clearings and fields.
SEASON Frequent.  Summer to autumn.
EDIBILITY Edible and tasty. aa
