CAP 7-15cm wide.  Starting convex becoming expanded, rarely flat.  Golden yellow to orange-yellow cap and covered with numerous brown upturned scales.
STIPE Bare and yellow towards the apex but covered in scales (as in cap) below.
GILLS/PORES Gills are waxy yellow when young turning rust brown.  Crowded, sinuate and slightly decurrent.
FLESH Dirty yellow throughout.  Bitter taste and smell reminiscent of radish.
SPORES Pale brown, ellipsoid.
HABITAT In clusters at the base of broadleaf trees.
SEASON Common.  Late summer to early winter.
EDIBILITY Inedible. r
