DESCRIPTION |
A flightless beetle that is strongly domed and smooth. The elytra are fused together and it is one of the largest of the leaf beetles. When handled it will emit a drop of red liquid which is particularly alarming to birds. |
BEHAVIOUR |
A slow moving beetle usually found walking over grass. Easily caught. |
DISTRIBUTION |
Mainly Southern England. |
HABITAT |
Grassland, coastal grassy cliffs and heathland. |
PERIOD |
April to September. |
