DESCRIPTION 20 - 28 mm in length with females generally larger than males this greyish-brown cricket has wings longer than the marbled brown abdomen which in itself is a major ID feature. The underside of the abdomen is yellowish-green and the female has an upturned ovipositor.
BEHAVIOUR The call of this species is similar to a steam train with the wings being rubbed together around three times per second.
DISTRIBUTION Only found along the south coast where it is relatively common.
HABITAT Mainly coastal with shingle, south facing cliffs and long grass the more favourable areas.
PERIOD May to Autumn.
