DESCRIPTION Wing length 8 -11mm. The black stigma, large oblong markings on tergite 2 and the thin narrow bands on tergites 3 and 4 almost confirm the identity of this species.The yellow scuttellum and dark line down the yellow frons add to complete the ID process.
BEHAVIOUR Can be seen in mixed groups of Hoverflies on the flowerheads of Umbellifers and the like.
DISTRIBUTION Local throughout.
HABITAT Woodland rides and hedgerows.
PERIOD May to October.
