DESCRIPTION Up to 35mm in length with chestnut coloured elytron.  The abdomen has white markings along each side.  Males have large, orange-brown fan-like antennae with 7 lamellae (see Fig 1).   
BEHAVIOUR Dusk flying.  Attracted to light and carrion.  Occasionally swarming.
DISTRIBUTION Common throughout, more so in the South.
HABITAT Woods, gardens and hedgerows.
PERIOD May to June.
