| ADULT | With its silvery grey abdomen and chestnut cephalothorax from which arise the gingery legs this creature is an under-rated stunner. The jaws are relatively massive for feeding on millipedes and woodlice and a bite from one can be quite painful. Only has 6 eyes whereas most spiders have eight. |
| BEHAVIOUR | Awaits its prey beneath chosen cover and when disturbed seems in no hurry to flee. |
| HABITAT | Common throughout and widespread. |
| DISTRIBUTION | In gardens within compost heaps, under stones and logs and other debris. Also coastal grassy areas where occasional ground cover occurs. |
| PERIOD | All year round. |
