DESCRIPTION Height up to 5cm. A basal rosette of tough, spiky leaves from which sprouts 1 or 2 purplish-pink flowers that are borne on very short stems indeed. These flowers are typically thistle-like in appearance.
DISTRIBUTION Common in southern half of England but absent from Scotland.
HABITAT Amongst short turf on calcerous soil.
FLOWERING TIME June to September.
