| DESCRIPTION: Up to 3cm high. With a pointed spire, a creamy-brown ground colour, a criss-cross pattern of spiral and longitudinal ridges and a thick toothed outer lip this sturdy carrion feeding mollusc is easily recognised with experience. The body is usually creamy white with darker blotches. DISTRIBUTION: Widespread throughout but mainly western. HABITAT: On exposed rocky shores, frequently flooded pebble beaches with a sandy under surface. BEST TIME TO SEE: All year round.  |
