VERNACULAR NAME: BROAD CLAWED PORCELAIN CRAB

DESCRIPTION Carapace width up to 35mm.  Sandy brown in colour which is aided by the trapped silt within the hair that covers most of the crabs body, pincers and legs.  The underside is white.  The main ID feature are the two extremely broad pincers.
DISTRIBUTION All British coasts where suitable habitat occurs.
HABITAT On rocky shores under stones and rocks where silt and debris have collected.
BEST TIME TO SEE All year round.
