Having spent many a year in pursuit of wildlife and all its glories I can sympathise with people who get frustrated by trying (and failing) to name certain things.  Even with internet access and a house full of natural history books there are still specimens that elude the option of being, personally christened.  There they sit in the ‘Awaiting ID’ folder on my computer, stubbornly refusing to be neatly categorised and ticked off.  Moths, fungi, insects, mammals and even birds all have their little problem species, which no matter what, just can’t be pinned down. The whole reason for this site is to offer a resource where identification of Britain ’s wildlife can be on offer for all those curious minded hunters out there who just want to put a name to something.  And why not?  Without a name sometimes an organism cannot be fully appreciated and understood.  But with a name – well then, it can say so much!

Lastly it is important to remember THIS IS NOT A PHOTOGRAPHIC WEBSITE.  True, there are plenty of my own personal pictures on the site, but these are not for show as I lay no claims to having a photographic eye.  These are wildlife photos taken with an adequate camera by an enthusiastic amateur naturalist trying to help other people along. 

Anyway I hope you like the site, even though this is the first stage in, I presume, a long metamorphosis.
